Dominion part 3
So, What Is Jesus Doing in Calming the Storm?
Matthew 8:23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 8:24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 8:27 But the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
See, that is dominion! We had two other sessions about dominion which we explicitly spoke about the authority of the believer having the sharp sword of the name of Jesus and our identity in Christ. So we discussed two elements, the name of Jesus, and the authority of the believer in Christ. But how do you know that you HAVE authority and by that authority, you can use the name of Jesus? The answer is by faith.
Do you notice that there are many ways to analyze faith? All characteristics of the kingdom are so interweaved but here we want to emphasize how faith is the only tool to activate the authority of the believer and use that sharp sword which is the name of Jesus.
You should see the name of Jesus as our heritage, our capital — is our asset.
See, the scripture says that in the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and those on earth, and those under the earth, Do you get it now? It doesn’t say at His face, although at His face everything will melt and bow, the emphasis is on His name that His name and Himself have the same power.
Jesus when He was about to ascend to the Father, didn’t say pray to me and I will it give it you. Did He say that? No. He said ask the father IN MY NAME and I will give it you. He left His name for us.
So, what is Jesus doing in calming the storm? What business did He have calming the storm in that way? Why did He complain Oh..ye of little faith??
Peace! Be Still!
He” Rebuked” The Wind And, “Said,” Peace Be Still! The setting is the sea of Galilee, a lake approximately 690 feet below sea level. It has the lowest altitude of any lake in the world. It has a marvelous view. It is fed by underwater springs and supplies fresh water. The problem with the sea is that while the unfavorable winds blow from Africa, at the same time, it is low and surrounded by cliffs, therefore, making it a target for dramatic storms. Not yet enough, the storms shape and come up suddenly. Jesus is on the earth in His restrained earth suit. His body has all our limitations, but He had the word from the Father. Jesus always said I could do nothing of my own, but my Father does the work. He has the word of the Father to pass the sea of Galilee; therefore, His trust is in the Father. He knew that he who watches Israel does not sleep or slumber (Ps 12:3), So He knows they are safe.
Where Is Your Faith?
So why did He reprove His disciples, asking where is your faith? After 2000 years, and having the precious new testament and the old in one place and witnessing His ministry and an evolved Christianity and many many healing revivals, today only a few bold Christians perform miracles. Did the Lord, in that stage of His ministry when His students could not even absorb the meaning of His parables, really expect them to rebuke the storm? Was it a regular request? The answer is of course no. Then, why did He do that?
Are you ready for this? Cuz it’s coming! The reason was to teach us as the body of Christ! To prepare you and me! As the Old Testament was a type and shadow of the New Testament, whatever Jesus did in His three and half years of ministry was a type and shadow of what the body of Christ can and should do, putting our faith in Him and Him only and being bold about it. Oh God, I’ve already preached my message!
He PERFORMED the future New Testament with His actions — Teaching us how to act in our storms and speak to our storms. It is the word that goes out and executes. In verse 8:16, Matthew says, He cast out the spirits with His word. Cast all your care upon the Lord hallelujah! At that very special moment, Jesus has not yet been glorified and therefore had not yet left His mighty name for us so He used Faith to manifest dominion over the storm just as God said in Genesis l let THEM have dominion over fish of the sea and every creature therein. That means God put a line between His authority and your authority on earth! See, God loves to do things for you but He needs your faith that becomes your permission. Why? Because God said let THEM have dominion and subdue the earth! That became law and God cannot and will not violate His law!
Look, will you go to the tenth floor and throw yourself just to see if your authority works? No no, a big no because there is something called gravity! It is a law! You cannot override that law! you will die!
So, at that moment in the storm only Jesus could perform such an act of faith and demonstrate dominion but when He ascended to the Father and left His holy name for us, we can operate in the same principle and have dominion over the storm.
Don’t you believe this? Well, if not, then tell me why Jesus said Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.?
Why did Jesus say that? Do you believe Jesus? Do you believe your Bible? So what makes it that difficult to believe Jesus? I tell you what: Lack of faith, not knowing about dominion, and not properly and through faith using the name of Jesus Plus sacred cows.
Now in session 2, we discussed that God has given every believer THE measure of faith. So if you are born again you have the same measure of faith that John G Lake had, the same measure as William Seymore, the same measure as Smith Wigglesworth. But what makes you different is that some of you have not developed your faith. The seed of faith which is in the word of God is in you, in all of you, no matter how old you are physically, or how old you are in Christ. We go from faith to faith and as 2 Thessalonians says faith grows exceedingly and as Martin Luther took this verse the just shall live …how? By faith
How should we act when we have the word of God about something and know that there is always a word or verse about what we need? Amid any sudden and unexpected storm, we should stand on the word and ask the Father in the name of Jesus to make it come to pass. See, Jesus taught his disciples in motion. So, you perform it in motion. He demonstrated to them and, therefore, us, His sons, and joint heirs, how to have power over the creation. He taught us not because of our might or deeds but because of the name of Jesus— the name above all names and above every power ever created.
Hallelujah! Glory to his holy name! thank you, Lord, for the name! we have the name! the name!
